Commencement Parking

Commencement parking passes are required to park on campus on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

  • Parking registration sites have closed.
  • Those who have registered for parking passes, they are being sent via U.S.P.S. with delivery in early May.
  • For those who did not register in advance, parking passes will be available for $10.00 each on Livingston Campus on Sunday, May 12 for Commencement. Shuttle buses will be running to transport guests to SHI Stadium.

With more than 30,000 people expected on the campuses in Piscataway and New Brunswick for Rutgers University-New Brunswick and Rutgers Health Commencement traffic will be heavy.

Special Needs Parking is available for guests who are unable to walk ½ mile or more. 

Parking passes issued by Rutgers Department of Transportation Services are not valid on Commencement Day. See the information below for the various parking zones.

Complementary Commencement shuttle service is offered from Livingston Campus and College Avenue Campus with drop off on Busch Campus. No shuttle service will be offered from Cook/Douglass Campus. 

There is no curbside drop-off at SHI Stadium on Busch Campus. 

Allow ample time for parking and accessing SHI Stadium.

Parking for School Convocations

School convocations and receptions do not require a Commencement parking hangtag. Check with your school regarding guest and ticketing information. 

Commencement Parking Registration

Commencement Parking Registration is now closed. For those still needing parking passes, they will be sold for $10 each on Livingston Campus on Commencement Day, Sunday, May 12.

    Graduates or guests who are unable to walk ½ mile or more for any reason – are encouraged to request special-needs parking.

     

  •  For faculty and staff, please send your request to commencement@rutgers.edu along with your name and netID. A pass will be sent via campus mail.

    • If you are driving to campus to attend Commencement, or to work on Sunday, May 12, you will need a Commencement parking hangtag for your vehicle.
    • Your parking permit issued by the Department of Transportation Services will not be valid on this day.
  • Student Parking is now closed.

    • Parking passes will be mailed in early May to those who registered before the April 22 deadline.
    • Parking passes will be available for $10 each on Livingston Campus on Commencement Day, Sunday, May 12.

Parking Zones

There are three campus parking zones, as well as two special-needs parking zones. 

Follow the driving directions provided in the parking mailing to access special-needs parking. Once on campus, all roads are not open.

Complementary Commencement shuttle service is offered from Livingston Campus and College Avenue Campus with drop off on Busch Campus in front of SHI Stadium. No shuttle service will be offered from Cook/Douglass Campus.

    • There are two special-needs parking zones:
      • Scarlet Zone, which is adjacent to the stadium, across from Gates A and B. 
      • Livingston Orange Zone, which provides additional special-needs parking near Jersey Mike's Arena. It is serviced by a special shuttle bus designated for special-needs guests and one companion. 
    • Graduates and guests should plan to walk up to 1 mile to and from SHI stadium. 
    • There is no shuttle bus service in the Blue Zone.

    • Graduates and guests should plan to walk the following distances: 
      • At least 1/4 mile from car to the shuttle buses
      • Up to 1/2 mile from the shuttle drop off to a seat at the stadium.
    • General and special needs shuttle service available.
    • Drop off area on Livingston Campus is located near the complimentary shuttle service at Jersey Mike's Arena.
    • Livingston Campus Orange Zone [PDF]
    • Graduates and guests should plan to walk the following distances: 
      • At least 1/3 mile from car to the shuttle buses
      • Up to 1/2 mile from the shuttle drop off to a seat at the stadium.
    • Shuttle buses are not handicap accessible from this campus.
    • Drop off area on College Avenue Campus is located near the complimentary shuttle service at the College Avenue Student Center.

Public Transportation

New Brunswick is easily accessible by train and bus, so leave your car at home and avoid the traffic.

Commencement Shuttle Bus Information

Complimentary shuttle buses will pick up/drop off passengers in the following locations:

  • College Avenue Campus
    • In front of the New Brunswick Train Station on Albany Street/Route 27 in New Brunswick in front of Dunkin' Donuts.
    • In front of the College Avenue Student Center
  • Livingston Campus
    • In front of Jersey Mike's Arena

  • Taxis and car services (including Uber) are required to drop off passengers at the College Avenue Student Center.

    • The College Avenue Student Center, located at 126 College Avenue in New Brunswick, is the designated drop-off location for those taking a taxi or car service, such as Uber or Lyft. A complimentary shuttle is then available to the stadium. See the College Avenue Campus map for details.
    • Curbside drop off at SHI Stadium is strictly prohibited. 
    • New Jersey Transit
      • New Jersey Transit Northeast Corridor Line provides New Brunswick with both local and express service between Penn Station, New York; and Newark and Trenton, New Jersey. Please check their website for up-to-date schedules and ticket information.
    • Amtrak
      • Amtrak provides limited direct service to New Brunswick; however, connections can easily be made via New Jersey Transit trains to principal Amtrak stations at MetroPark, New York, and Trenton. Please check their website for up-to-date schedules and ticket information.
  • The following bus route provide access to New Brunswick-area campuses. Shuttle service is available from the College Avenue and Livingston campuses. For bus information, visit NJTransit.com or call (973) 275-5555.
